The “Magnificent Seven” Preview of NRF 2016

nrfThis year will mark my 20th NRF “Big Show”, and the event still energizes me with anticipation.  It’s a reunion – we get to see longtime friends, partners and ambassadors of this field we love to toast to our passion for retail.   The buzz of 2016 reminds me of when Shop.Org was a small part of this event, as retail today is evolving quickly and we’re both contributing to the progress as well as receiving the benefit of it as consumers.

There’s a lot to do at NRF and in New York, but there are sessions I can’t wait to see.  In the spirit of my 80’s roots, let’s celebrate The Clash, and dub them “The Magnificent Seven”:

  1. Ken Basset of VF Corporation is speaking on Sunday about “In-Store Analytics: How to Organize Internally for Maximum Impact
  2. The North Face‘s Cal Brouchard is will discuss how IBM Watson has helped them transform the Online and In-Store Shopping Experience “It’s Elementary, My Dear Watson: Retail’s Foray Into Artificial Intelligence
  3. Tracy Brown of Sam’s Club will discuss how critical content is to converting online customers “Path to Purchase: The Intersection of Content and Commerce
  4. Toys R UsSimon Cartley will review how “consumer influencers” and “customer shopping behavior” are shaping the industry–from store formats, to service expectations and curated collections on Monday.
  5. Kevin Ertell of Sur La Table and Rob Schmults of Talbots will discuss how lip service to “Omni-channel” doesn’t cut it in “Retail Organization 2020: The Think Tank’s Forecast
  6. Paul Gainer of Disney Store joins John White from Fossil and Christina Shi from Nike to provide a futuristic view of merged channels in “Retail Disrupted: Navigating the Digital Age” on Tuesday at 1:30PM.
  7. ForeSee‘s own Eric Feinberg will challenge you on Tuesday with “You’re Doing it Wrong: Where Customer Expectations and Your Execution Diverge” including the Holiday 2015 ForeSee Experience Index (FXI) results, traditionally a standing-room-only session.

If you were expecting a list of Rosie O’Grady’s, NFL Playoffs at the Marriott NRF Reception on Sunday or a late night at Don’t Tell Mama on Tuesday night, while those do ring true, those are there each year.   This year is special. Hope to see you at #NRF16 – Happy Holidays and best of luck this selling season.
